The embryo transfer programme has been underway at Pacomarca since 2008.  Thanks to help from COALAR (Council on Australia Latin America Relations) professional training was given by Doctors Jane Vaughan and David Hopkins, who carry out alpaca embryo transfer commercially in Australia.  Pacomarca currently has a programme where approximately 150 transfers per year are made, making it one of the most extensive embryo-transfer programmes in the world.

The animals that take part in the embryo-transfer programme at Pacomarca are chosen from among those of greatest genetic value, with the aim of producing the gain in the shortest possible time.

The donor females are ''washed''approximately six times per season, and it has been possible to obtain as many as four excellent baby alpacas from each animal in just one mating season.
